The idea for this site came from two of my main interests: cities, and history. There are many blogs which cover cities, quite fewer that cover history in general, and just a handful that cover both – with many of these last focused on rapidly-disappearing remnants of “Olde Nieuw Yorke” or other nostalgic, near-history projects.
This blog hopes to summarize interesting news on the archaeology and preservation of cities that have either long since disappeared, or those that are disappearing beneath their contemporary forms. In addition to timely coverage, I hope to present more general, historical profiles and portraits of cities, their monuments, characters, rulers and everymen, as inspiration and leisure permit.
